Kill switches are required by most racing organizations for competition use. Most require a tether kill - if the rider comes off the bike, the tether disconnects the ignition, shutting off the machine and helping to reduce the chance of injury. Some kill switches are simply a mechanical switch to replace the standard one, but in a smaller format.
